Experiential Communications Program - Megan Mikami
As a recent college graduate and former student-athlete, entering the job market can be both exciting and intimidating. Transitioning from the competitive world of athletics to your professional career has its rewards, but it also has its challenges, especially when you consider how hard it was to say goodbye to my softball career.
As a recent college graduate and former student-athlete, entering the job market can be both exciting and intimidating. Transitioning from the competitive world of athletics to your professional career has its rewards, but it also has its challenges, especially when you consider how hard it was to say goodbye to my softball career. That chapter of my life was filled with so much joy and purpose, and closing that door was not easy. However, joining the Experiential Communications Training Program at Image Options has been a transformative experience that has helped me navigate this transition and find new direction, and I’m eager to share my experience.
What Is the Training Program?
The Experiential Communications Training Program is a six-month program designed for recent college grads who may not have extensive work experience but are eager to learn and grow. Throughout the program, the trainees rotate through various departments, including Production, Project Management, Engineering, Sales, and more. This hands-on approach allows us to gain a holistic understanding of how each department contributes to the overall success of the company.
At the end of the program, the trainees meet with management to discuss their skills, interests, and career goals, helping to determine the best full-time role for everyone. It’s a fantastic way to explore different paths while receiving support and mentorship from experienced professionals.
A Comprehensive Learning Experience
As I began rotating through the program, each week presented new opportunities and insights, teaching me the importance of being adaptable and open-minded. I quickly recognized that the growth mindset I developed as a softball player was just as valuable in the workplace. I focused on applying the lessons I learned on the field to my new professional environment, helping me navigate each new week with confidence and enthusiasm.
Discovering My Strengths
One of the most rewarding parts of this program has been the opportunity for self-discovery. I’ve learned a lot about my own working style; I thrive in hands-on experiences and have a knack for learning new things. Whether it was welding during my fabrication week, operating large-format printers, or joining the installation team on site visits, I found immense joy in tackling tasks I never imagined I would get to do.
Building Valuable Relationships
Another highlight of this program has been the relationships I’ve built. Rotating through each department allowed me to work closely with each team. The welcoming atmosphere at Image Options made me feel right at home.
One of the most special aspects of this experience has been the bond I’ve formed with my fellow trainee, Emilia. From our very first week, we’ve supported each other through the challenges and triumphs of the program. Having someone to share this journey with has made all the difference.
The moments we spent collaborating and learning together have created a connection that I’ll cherish long after this program ends. Knowing I have someone who understands the unique challenges we face in this transitional phase of our lives has been invaluable. I feel incredibly grateful for our friendship, and I know that the support we’ve given each other will resonate throughout our professional lives.
Looking Toward the Future
As I approach the final months of the program, I’m starting to identify the roles that align with my skills and interests. I’m currently considering positions in Project Management or Account Management, but I’m excited to explore all the possibilities. Both roles offer the chance to build strong, meaningful relationships with our clients, which is something I’m passionate about. I’m excited to dive deeper into understanding their needs and working together to make their projects a success. This program has helped me realize my potential and the contributions I can make to the team. I aspire to leave a positive impact at Image Options, just as they have profoundly influenced my journey.
The Impact
The Experiential Communications Training Program at Image Options exemplifies the company’s dedication to investing in the next generation of professionals. By nurturing young talent, they also secure their own future and build on their legacy. I feel privileged to be part of a company that values growth, collaboration, and innovation.
In a world where many student-athletes feel lost or underprepared after graduating, this program offered a clear path forward for me. It has equipped me with the skills I need to thrive in the workforce and instilled in me a level of confidence similar to the one I felt when stepping onto the softball field. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me and grateful for the belief Image Options has shown in me.
